Staffing news

March 7th, 2012

I wanted to share some good news with you. We have appointed 2 learning mentors. These are Mr Portman and Mrs Firth.

For you and your children Learning Mentors are key people who will help us to make sure that your children are happy, safe and doing well with their learning.

They will be very busy with their new roles but will always be there for you to talk to if you have any questions or worries and for when you may want some information. If you can’t see them around school when you need them, please ring up or come to the office and make an appointment.

I am sure that you will join us in wishing them the very best for their new roles.

Yours sincerely

Wow! Book Day

March 5th, 2012

I am writing to say a big THANK YOU for your support in making our Book Day such a great day. The children loved the costumes you had got for them.

We had a lovely assembly where Y1 and Y2 told us the Gingerbread Man story. Y3 told us some of the ‘Traction Man’ story and were all dressed as superheroes – Miss Ellis was Catwoman.

Y3/4 have been inspired by the book called ‘The Worst Witch’ and shared their recipes for potions. Then, Y5 did some brilliant rapping and one was their idea about teachers nagging (they don’t do that do they??). The finale, was Y6 and Ms O Gorman – but you’ll have to come and see the photos by the hall to see what that was all about!

Y4/5 hosted a fashion show later in the morning. They strutted their stuff in costumes inspired by the ‘Where’s Wally’ books. I spotted Reception children loving it when it was their turn to show us their special costumes. Then there was John, our caretaker on the catwalk-again, you’ll need to see the photos to see what I mean.

Diary dates:

May 1st we are starting to plan a whole school trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster. Details to follow.

Late May whole school street party to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.

Yours sincerely

Another half term has nearly gone!

February 10th, 2012

Thank you for your support this half term.

We have been really busy continuing our school improvement work. We have had a huge focus on reading across school. A number of activities have supported our drive to have every child reading. Children have loved going to the library and having extra support from staff in school. We will be celebrating World Book Day on March 1st and teachers will let you know what else they have planned around reading that week. In the meantime, please make sure that your child brings their reading book home and that someone listens to them read.

As you know, we also desperately need to improve our attendance, otherwise too many children are missing out on their learning. I am very grateful to Mr Portman and to Ms Thackray who have made sure that we have a Walking Bus going every morning. This is making a real difference for the children concerned! If we can help you to improve your child’s attendance, please dolet us know. We CAN help!

Our next big push, needs to be reducing the number of children who are late. If children are late just one day, then their learning will fall behind and we know that, like us, you don’t want this. Can we all try and get children to school every day by ten to nine? Again, if you need help, just let us know!

Diary dates:

We break up at 3:05 p.m this Friday and children should come in uniform. The half term holiday is 5 school days, and then school will be shut on Monday 20th Feb for a staff training day. School re-opens at 10 to 9 on Tuesday 21st Feb.

Parents Salsa dancing classes are starting in the hall every Wednesday from 22nd Feb, 9:15-10:15. It’s free and great fun. Please come along!
