Healthy eating week

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Dear Parents

I am writing to give you further information about our Healthy Eating Week which is taking place week beginning 11th January. As well as launching our new Healthy Snack Policy we will also be running a range of activities for all year groups, please see below for details.

1. Healthy Snack Cafe will be held on Wednesday 13th January. All children will be given the opportunity to visit the cafe and buy a snack. All snacks will be 10p each – please send money to school with your that day if you would like them to buy a snack.

2. Design a healthy sandwich competition. Children will be given time in class to design their sandwich, a prize will be awarded for the best design in KS1 and KS2.

3. Cooking activities – all classes will be doing some sort of cooking/food preparation activity during Healthy Eating week.

4. Food tasting. Children will be given the opportunity to taste different foods and to give their thoughts and opinions on these.

5. Free snacks for all children.

If your child has a food allergy which we need to consider when tasting food please fill in the tear off slip below and return to your child’s class teacher by no later than Friday 8th January so that they are aware of this.

After looking at the results from the parent questionnaire I have decided not to run a parent workshop due to lack of interest. I will, however be sending out regular information sheets with recipe ideas and tips as many parents seemed interested in receiving this. If you do feel that a parent workshop/INSET training session would be valuable please feel in the section on the tear off slip and return to school as soon as possible.

Many thanks again for your support in this.

Best wishes

Mrs. J Noakes

Healthy eating and choir

Healthier Eating
Thankyou to you all for helping us with questionnaires about packed lunches and healthy eating.

I’m really pleased to tell you that lots of children have already taken up the challenge of giving up crisps and are eating more fruit.

We are having a Healthy Week in the 2nd week of January. There are lots of exciting events planned so watch this space.

Congratulations to Summer and Spice’s mum who won the prize draw.

Upcoming dates
9th January is our 4th training day.
There will be one more in the Summer term.

Choir
Our school choir is much in demand as you probably already know! The Christmas season began on 8th December when they sang in the festival on Seacroft Green. They then sang at Temple Newsam on 12th December and will be at at Elmete on 17th December. Oh.. and in our school concerts on 16th December.

The choir works so hard and we are very proud of them. We are very grateful to Mrs Ellerby who leads the choir and to Mrs Brown and Mrs Hill who support its work.

Healthy eating at playtimes

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

You may have heard from the children that school is banning crisps in the New Year? It’s true – we are!

We are very worried that so many children bring crisps and not healthier food for their playtime snacks. We have already asked the children to bring fruit or cereal bars instead.

Could you help with this please?

Mrs. Noakes in Year 6, would like to do a survey soon about healthy eating. There will be a prize draw, so watch this space!
