Happy New Year 2012

Monday, January 16th, 2012

I hope that you have all enjoyed the holidays. We are glad to see the children
back and are looking forward to the year ahead.

I wanted to start by telling you some not so happy news and that is, that Miss Harrison is leaving on Friday this week. Many of you will have known Miss Harrison for many years and will agree with me that she will be a huge loss to the school. I would be really pleased if you could come and say goodbye in Friday’s assembly. This will be at half past 9 (bring tissues!)

Other things:

  • Mrs Webb will be continuing to share the teaching in Y1with Ms Maxfield until the end of the school year.
  • We have a vacancy for a Parent Governor. Please let me know if you would like to know more about what this involves.
  • We will be starting a banding system at lunchtimes from next Monday. This just means that children can choose from one of 2 meals every day. The menu has been improved with the help of the children, so if you would like to change to school dinners let us know!
  • Please make sure we have your contact details as well as an emergency number should we need to ring.
  • Our next and last training day is February 20th.
  • Our school’s New Year’s resolution is to come to school every day and to come on time. We do need to improve attendance – it’s so important. Please work with us and the children to improve on this.
  • Uniform-some children have not come back in uniform. Can you ask them to wear black shoes and a red top? Please let us know if we can help.
  • Yours sincerely

Welcome back!

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I hope that you have all had a good Easter. It’s good to see the children back, ready for this new term.

New Deputy Head – please join me in welcoming Mrs. Tatham to our school and wishing her well in her new job. Mrs Tatham is also doing our work around special needs.

Emergency contact telephone numbers
Please please make sure that we can contact you or a close friend or relative during the school day if your child is unwell. We need to have two telephone numbers. Please see Mrs. Ellerby in the school office if your numbers have changed.

0844 412 7610 is the number to save and ring to hear a recorded message about any emergency school closure or delay to a school trip getting back. Please note that calls cost around 5p but may vary with different network providers. Also, you are not able to leave a message on this service. Let’s hope we don’t get any more snow!

Half term
We break up for the May half-term holiday at 3.05 p.m. on Friday 28 May 2010. We re-open at 8.50 a.m. on Monday 7 June 2010.

Monday 21st June is our last training day and school will be closed.

We break up for Summer on Friday 23 July 2010 at 1.30 p.m. We open for the new school year at 8.50 a.m. on Wednesday 1 September 2010.

Health and safety
We are very grateful to DrainsAid for providing us with a ramp to the front door. This will enable easier access for wheelchair users and people with buggies. Please make sure that children don’t play on this ramp or railings.

Reception children now can play and learn under their new canopy. I think that you will agree it looks like a great, safe place to be?

We now have our automatic gates on the drive way. These will be shut at 8.40 a.m. and reopen at 9.05 a.m. then again, close at 2.50 p.m. and reopen at 3.15 p.m. As ever, I ask you to think before you drive up to school at the beginning and end of day. The safety of children and families walking is our priority. Under our Zero Tolerance Policy, we will not accept any abuse to this system.

Haiti Art Gallery raised a grand total of £127.60. I am sure that you will all be very pleased that we are able to make this significant financial contribution to troubled parts of our world.

School Uniform
If you are out buying new uniform may I remind you that it is: Dark trousers, skirt or pinafore PE: Dark Shorts

White polo shirts White polo or t-shirt

Red cardigans or sweatshirts

Jewellery
For health and safety reasons I would like to remind you that children are asked not to wear jewellery.

School website
Have you looked at ParklandsPrimary.org.uk? We welcome your ideas for what to add to it. We have decided not to have any photos of the children on this site but you will soon be able to see some of the pictures they did for our Haiti Art Gallery. We hope to be able to have a homework site very soon. Watch this space!

See you soon
